I Ching #43 泽天夬 Breakthrough

Breakthrough: Someone shouted out loudly in the king’s court: There is a danger. Informing its people that this is not a good time for war, it is best to negotiate.Â
《Tuan-Commentary on the Judgment》:Breakthrough and making decisions require strong yang energy to overcome Yin’s weakness. A firm and resolute approach should still be balanced with a positive and harmonious attitude. Declaring danger in the royal court is due to the soft top yin line riding above the five yang lines. Honestly, declaring there is danger indicates the issues at hand are obvious now. Inform its people not to use military forces to exhaust all resources. It is beneficial to establish communication with the other party, because, over time, yang (positive forces) naturally grows and yin (negative forces) declines.
《Xian-Overall Image》: The image of Hexagram is like the water from a lake transforming into vapor, rising to heaven, then falling. A gentleman, receiving this insight, should bestow blessings and prosperity upon the people. Otherwise, if one remains aloof and does not bestow favor, one will face resentment.
The upper trigram æ³½ Lake depicts a body of water falling from the sky, while the lower trigram represents the ä¹¾ Qian sky. Excessive rain may cause a major flood, breaking the riverbanks. To avoid losses, action must be taken quickly and decisively.
Hexagram 夬 (Guai) emphasizes the importance of making decisive and firm decisions while maintaining harmony. It advocates for the public declaration of issues, cautions against hasty military actions, and the necessity of careful planning and thoroughness in achieving success.
There are five yang lines beneath one yin line, implying that the top is weak and requires yang action to strengthen, as if a country’s leader is failing to do its duty and causing flooding and disasters that require immediate action to fix them. Staying in the top position without doing anything to benefit the people below is very dangerous and not advised.
When a person finds himself in a crisis where everything seems at the point of breakdown, avoid reacting aggressively, getting defensive, or trying to combat the problems head-on. Surviving difficult challenges depends upon your ability to stay centered, focused, and as calm as possible. reacting to an emotional crisis will only compound the difficulties ( as the line indicates, there is no use in crying out loud). Be firm yet flexible, and work steadily to resolve the situation. As time goes by, the positive yang energy will overcome the negative yin energy, and what you do will bring resolution.
This hexagram has another name: resoluteness—an unwavering quality that makes it possible to endure all kinds of mental and physical hardships, external pressures, or emotional intrigues whenever a person arises on his path like the Buddha.
Spiritually speaking, this hexagram is about the Divine trying to reach down to connect to human physics and the heart. As the ego learns to surrender to the spirit, at a point of breakthrough, it leads a person to enlightenment and becomes a manifestation of the divine.
